Measure yourself first
Use a soft tape measure over light clothing. Keep it level and snug, without pulling it tight.
- Waist
- Measure around your natural waist, near the crease that forms when you bend to one side.
- Hips
- Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
- Inseam
- Measure a pair of jeans you love from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the hem.
Compare with a pair you love
When a product lists garment measurements, lay your favorite jeans flat without stretching them. Measure across the waistband and double it for the waist. Measure the front rise from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband, then compare the inseam.
Check the fabric and stretch notes too. A rigid jean will feel different from a stretch pair, even with similar measurements. Judy Blue, Risen, and Kancan sizing varies by style, so there isn’t one size-down rule for every pair.
